Touch My Mantel

So I’m all moved into my new apartment. Still have some things to organize and hang on the walls, but I’m pretty much done. But I’m stuck on my fireplace. I have a huge (non-working) fireplace in the center of the living room. Not only am I looking for cool candles to put in the fireplace…I need to figure out what to put on the mantel.

I have my painting Kate McLean made for me of my cat fighting a bear right above the fireplace…but have nothing to accent it. Should I do candles? Cool funky bottles? Wine bottles? Knick knack stuff? Gnomes?

I’m by no means an interior decorator, so I’m stuck on what to do? What can I put on my mantel?…Help!

Oh I so have a comment for this! My apartment that I mvoed into last NOvember has a non-working fireplace with a mantle, etc…It’s so great, I love it…BUT….I was stumped for the longest time as for what to put on it…So here is what I did, not saying you should.

I have gigantic ceramic vases, they sit on the harth at the corners of the fire place (So they are on floor level) and on top I put pictures of mine and my boyfriends family, with us in the centre. I have an awesome candle that sits on one end, and then a tall skinny bottlish vase-like thing at the other end. Believe me, I don’t know if I did a great job at describing all this, it looks awesome. Just make sure your stuff isn’t tacky, and matches. You can never go wrong with vases and pictures…But for God Sakes, stay away from the plastic plants!!!! lol
