The Verdict

Ahh…jury duty is finally over!!

I do have to say, even though I was hoping not to be put on a trial, I thought it was a very interesting learning experience. I have learned: eye patch

1.) Selecting a jury is long, boring, and painful

2.) Not Guilty does not mean innocent

3.) Real court is not like a tv show

4.) People on the jury can be creepier than the people in the trial

5.) The Hall of Justice is a great place to people watch - 1 muumuu and 2 eye patches last week!

On a serious note, I hope we made the right decision and the people involved in the case have learned something too. All the shootings in the city are really sad. I’ll admit I watched the news every night and saw about all the shootings in the city and kind of blew it off thinking it was just another one of many. But each shooting effects families too even if it’s in the city and not in your neighborhood. Being on this trial opened my eyes up more to that. But what can ya do? Really? It seems more like a fact of life than something that can be solved. It’s just sad that some people have to shoot each other to resolve a problem.

I was on Grand Jury last year and I dunno I liked it. After all of us were selected, I started to realize that I had no choice of getting out and I wasn’t to into the whole idea of being in a room with a bunch of people I didn’t know for 3 months. But over time we all got to know each other and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I too am saddened by how much crime there is in our city, it just makes me annoyed.
